Ilze Abolins was born and raised in Toronto and currently resides in the County. Fibre has a special calling for her - you can see her at soccer practice for her daughter with the ever-present sock in progress. This "calling" has led her to her current job/reason to be in Belleville - the yarn shop a.k.a. The Knitting Nimrod Collective.

Elizabeth Shantz is part-time at many things - currently as a teacher and in the yarn shop. She has been doing needlework for many years and shares Ilze’s love of fibre, knitting and crochet.

Together we create knitted, crocheted and felted items for both you and your home. We also enjoy dyeing yarn - especially silk, and from that arose our name, The Accidental Artisans. We wandered into a marvelous new calling, creating beautifully coloured yarns in a variety of fibres and weights.
