H. Carl Reid is a retired teacher and Lorene's father. He was born and raised on a farm on the outskirts of Belleville and has been "messin' with" boats on the Bay of Quinte since childhood. Carl was inspired to paint with oils as a boy with early influences by Charlie Bone, Manson MacDonald and Phillipa Faulkner, who often painted near the Reid farm. Many years later, Carl enjoyed watercolour classes with Donnah Cameron who inspired and encouraged him with enthusiasm.
Carl understands the landscape around the Bay Of Quinte. Indeed, wife June, family and friends know he has an ancestral, encyclopedic knowledge of every square inch of water in the Bay and of boats! When Carl is not on the boat he designed and had built in Picton, the Lady Kevrene, or painting, he spends time gardening and helping grateful family and friends with their projects. He has been enchanting people with his serene watercolours for many years and since retirement has found more time to paint! Marine landscapes are his favourite subject but Carl also paints beautiful floral pieces and has made prints of his favourites. Come and see the work of H. Carl Reid at Oakgrove and make sure you ask Carl to tell you about The Bay.
