Artist’s Statement
The greatest gift that art has given me over the years is the ability not just to look, but also to see what is around us: light, texture, colour, and values. A painting should tell a story, stir the imagination, let the artist’s message be understood but, most of all, provide pleasure to the viewer.
In addition, I always try to plan my composition and design meticulously so that combined with colour harmony, lighting and tonal values and a detailed sketch, they all provide a successful piece of art.
Primarily self-taught, I have taken “too many to count” workshops from internationally celebrated artists such as Edwin Matthews, Arleta Pech, Gord McKenzie, Linda Kemp, Phil Metzger, Jake Vandenbrink , Debra Tate-Sears, Colebrook Keirstead and many others.
I am a professional watercolour and acrylic artist / instructor, having shown and won in numerous juried shows during my career as both an amateur and a professional. My work is in private collections in Canada, the US, Holland and Australia. Until 2014 when I turned seventy, three galleries handled my pieces, and I offered instruction and workshops through Loyalist College in Belleville for over 30 years in the Continuing Education Department.
I still give private instruction to both individuals and groups.
