Artist Statement for Emõke Wilson (EmK)

Art and I have been BFF’s since childhood when, on the suggestion of one of my teachers, my parents enrolled me for art classes at the Edmonton Art Gallery. There, I learned the basics, painting portraits, still life and landscapes in watercolour and oils.

However, even at such a young age, I viewed life with eclectic eyes, and what really turned my crank was modern/abstract art; that, plus moving beyond just watercolour and oils.

So, today, MANY years later, I am a Mixed-Media Artist/Expressionist creating exclusive, one-of-a-kind 2D and 3D works. My repertoire continues to expand as I discover new techniques and materials. I love textures, bold colours and patterns, in nature or man-made. Using unconventional materials intrigues and challenges m Save e.

Biography

In keeping with a love for learning, my formal training has spanned a lifetime. It includes:

– Edmonton Art Gallery

– University of Alberta

– University of Toronto

– OCADU (Ontario College of Art and Design University)

– Canadore College

plus, numerous Continuing Education classes and workshop.

I never knew my paternal Grandfather, but he was a talented painter . . . so I’ve been told. I hope that I’ve inherited some of his skills and do him proud!
